V/A - International Pop 7"

Undoubtedly one of the best indie pop compilation ever produced in the early nineties. Its a collaborative project by two of the highly respectable record label in the indie community, Mind The Gap from Germany and Season Records from Australia. The compilation features Red Sleeping Beauty, The Sugargliders, The Yesterday Sky and The Legendary Bang. Super-highly recommended!!!

Comet Gain - Kill Rockstars 7"

Yet another indiepop band ready to be exploited. A homegrown from Washington, home of the legendary indiepop label Subpop, Comet Gain I would say is a fusion of punk and indiepop for its fast-paced yet jingly-jangly guitars appealing to jangle pop followers. Kinda harsh for a traditionalist yet subtle for experimentalist. Judge it for yourself, just have an open mind and soul for this is not your typical ear candy treat!

Northern Picture Library - Last September's Farewell Kiss 7"

A strange approach to downtempo indiepop, NPL's title track combines accordion, pitch bending synth and occasional guitar distortion to brew an almost perfect melody. The first time I heard this song I thought they sounded very much like Field Mice only to find out in Wikipedia that some of the members were indeed from that legendary band. The flip-side is not to be missed. Its straight out clean acoustic guitar pop with equally brilliant melody.

Mayfields - Deeper Than The Ocean 7"

Catchy melody with the likes of The Smiths, Love Parade, Bradford and Hardy Boys, this record is for sure to catch guitar pop fans attention. Not much info about them except they were formed in Bristol and this record was released by one of my favorite record label, Bus Stop. I could see the consistency in them since these two songs are just absolutely terrific. For people who appreciate good neo-acoustic tunes please make sure you don't leave this website without downloading these two song single or you'll be missing a lot!

Fantastic Something - The Night We Flew Out The Window EP

My one of the sought after EPs finally in my hands! Randybazooka was the first to have this and ever since I've heard of it I've been dying to get my own copy. I also found this on one of the Japanese indie collector's website along with Bluetrain's Land Of Gold (my next target, lucky Cino has one), The Tempest, early The Farm, etc. I wonder what happened to that website though. Its indiepop like you've never heard before. It has the jazzy feel blended with soft voice and clean guitar. If you see one like this don't let it slip away, I almost did. Not because I didn't buy it but because the seller from this auction site turned into a non-registered user even before he shipped the item! I was able to get it after weeks, (or was it months) of waiting though, whew!

Birdie - Folk Singer 7"

From the ashes of Saint Etienne and Dolly Mixture comes Birdie, one of the relevant bands in the 90s twee world. Plain acoustic guitar with catchy hooks and melody, its their simplicity that will make you want to listen to their music over and over. So if you're in to laid back, easy listening kind of mood, but of course with a touch of quality indiepop music, listen to Birdie!

One of Sunday Record's gems, this Po!'s single is just absolute beauty! The blend of the gentle yet melodic voice and the jangly guitar is sure to captivate the heart of every indiepop fan. An upload not to be missed, very highly recommended indeed! Tell me what you think and I will be posting another bunch of Sunday Record's tunes, this time from the label's compilation.

Memphis - You Supply The Roses EP

James Kirk, Edwin Collin's partner in crime in the jangle pop pioneer and one of my all-time favorite band Orange Juice, went solo to form this another exciting jangle pop now defunct band Memphis. The b-side Apres Ski is the song to listen to. Not to be mistaken with Bourgie Bourgie's same song title which is a brilliant song as well. Although the title track You Supply The Roses and flipside I Supply The Wine fit my neo-acoustic taste, Apres Ski is just exceptional. You've got to hear it to believe it. This song has inspired me so much that I declare this week the Orange Juice and related week! So watch out for Orange Juice, Paul Quinn and Bourgie Bourgie (somewhat related due to the fact that Pale Blue Eyes were Paul Quinn and Edwyn Collins collaboration while James Kirk used to be part of Paul Quinn & The Independent Group. And to top it off, both Memphis and Paul Quinn solo were released by Swamplands).

See See Rider - She Sings Alone EP

Nice guitar pop tunes from nineties indie band See See Rider. The cut She Sings Alone, acoustic in a way, exhibits catchy melody though it only reached #99 in the UK chart. Notable artists from notable bands such as The Primitives' May Rock Marshall and Pete Tweedie, Felt and Servant's Phil King and The Jesus and Mary Chain's Douglas Hart were once part of this legendary group.

Big Red Bus - All I Need EP

Jingly jangly pop song from UK's jangle pop band Big Red Bus. While majority would commend for Cathedral Walls because of the song's inclusion in The Sound Of Leamington Spa Volume 1, I find the song All I Need quite interesting and deserves to be heard. In the tradition of The Bodines and The Mighty Lemon Drops, experience what this band has to offer for it surely won't disappoint.

Sportique - Don't Believe A Word I Say 7" [Matinée 017]

A collaboration of some of C86's legendary pop stars Gregory Webster (Razorcuts, the Carousel, Saturn V), Rob Pursey (Marine Research, Heavenly), Mark Flunder (TV Personalities, McTells), and Amelia Fletcher (Marine Research, Heavenly, Talulah Gosh), with this line-up alone how could you doubt the music of Sportique? From the label who brought you The Lucksmiths,The Windmills, Northern Portraits, Brighter and The Siddeleys, this is another Matinee's cream of the crop.

Cola Boy - 7 Ways To Love 12"

Awesome track from Saint Etienne's alter ego, Cola Boy. This song were huge in UK during the early nineties. As a rule of thumb if they were never big in USA, they are not considered mainstream in my book and they can be part of my blog! It would have been a hit though, its catchy, energetic and has the acid house feel to it. This song would have ruled the american night clubs. If Republica and The Other Two have fascinated you, this is a guaranteed hit in your mp3 collection!

The Penelopes - It's Not You 7"

Released by indiepop favorite Elefant Records, 3 magnificent Sarah-inspired pop songs are ready to blow you away. This is not your usual English, Swedish or Australian indiepop band, these guys are from the land of the rising sun, Japan. I got my first mp3 samples from my good friend Cino and the first time I've heard of their songs I said to myself I got to have a tangible copy of this. So please do check out this one and savor what east has to offer!

Aberdeen - Sink Or Float 7"

East River Pipe and Aberdeen were two of the Sarah Records artist I could think of off the top of my head who were from USA. They've been under the label's shadow and eventually made a breakthrough with the release of this phenomenal single. The band have proven their worth once again with or without the legendary label tagged along their name.

The Corn Dollies - Be Small Again EP

This is slowly becoming one of my favorite jangle pop band, The Corn Dollies were destined to provide us melodic guitar pop tunes in the late eighties and early nineties. Hailed from the great city of London, these quintet have produced several singles during their residence with Medium Cool and later on with Midnight Music, label notable for post-punk band lineups. Personally, their creativity were exhibited in Medium Cool as three of my favorite singles were released on that label. Have a taste of their first single and as you crave for more, more songs will follow. Just keep your browser tuned in to this website!
