Paul Quinn - Ain't That Always The Way EP

Deep and passionate is how I would describe Paul Quinn's voice and I consider him as one of the great vocalist of neo-acoustic era. I've been seeing his name all over because not only he led the now defunct Bourgie Bourgie, but he made collaboration with some of the finest artist emerged during the eighties like Edwin Collins of Orange Juice and Vince Clark of Depeche Mode, Yaz and Erasure. These two singles are collaborative projects of Paul Quinn and Edwin Collins during his career as a solo artist.

Orange Juice - What Presence?! (Extended Version) 12"

Led by singer/guitarist Edwyn Collins, Orange Juice along with Josef K and Aztec Camera, pioneered the neo-acoustic movement in the early eighties. Although Orange Juice didn't hit mainstream, Edwyn Collins resurrected his career in the 90s as a solo artist with a smash hit "A Girl Like You."

Memphis - You Supply The Roses EP

James Kirk, Edwin Collin's partner in crime in the jangle pop pioneer and one of my all-time favorite band Orange Juice, went solo to form this another exciting jangle pop now defunct band Memphis. The b-side Apres Ski is the song to listen to. Not to be mistaken with Bourgie Bourgie's same song title which is a brilliant song as well. Although the title track You Supply The Roses and flipside I Supply The Wine fit my neo-acoustic taste, Apres Ski is just exceptional. You've got to hear it to believe it. This song has inspired me so much that I declare this week the Orange Juice and related week! So watch out for Orange Juice, Paul Quinn and Bourgie Bourgie (somewhat related due to the fact that Pale Blue Eyes were Paul Quinn and Edwyn Collins collaboration while James Kirk used to be part of Paul Quinn & The Independent Group. And to top it off, both Memphis and Paul Quinn solo were released by Swamplands).

The Weather Prophets - Why Does The Rain EP

As most indie fans would already know, The Weather Prophets were formed from the remains of The Loft, one of the early bands of Creation Records. This single was taken from their album Temperance Hotel, released by Elevation in 1987, where their music had mellowed a little bit. It still possessed the same elements of The Loft we grew to love, only Peter Astor had reached his song writing skills to a higher degree. For the fans of guitar pop and neo-acoustics check this out!

18 Wheeler - Nature Girl EP

If you're in a mood for melodic pop tunes in the tradition of Teenage Fanclub, here's a song for you. Very simple yet melodic, its conventional acoustic guitar at its best! I have read in Wikipedia that Oasis once opened for them, that was actually the time when Allan McGee discovered the band and have them signed for Creation Records. That just showed how music careers can revolve like a wheel, one day you can be on the very bottom, the next day you can be on the very top.

Hey Paulette - I Really Do Love Penelope EP

This is one of the very rare jangle pop EP that came out in the C86 era. It contains 4 tracks and each of them is simply a masterpiece of its own. The EP is released under Mickey Rourke's Fridge. Very jangly pop songs from start to finish, I consider Hey Paulette as one of the most brilliant neo-acoustic bands of their era. The title track was part of the Firestation Tower compilation The Sound Of Leamington Spa but that is just quarter of fun. I strongly insist you download all four songs and let me know what you think!

Hurrah! - Gloria EP

I find it really hard to believe music gem like this has been ignored and forgotten. The EP's title track Gloria is an absolute harmony made in heaven! Perfect combination of guitar and bass riffs with cherry on top vocals, this guitar pop song is just pure beauty on all counts!
